Our Mission
Sandstories LLC provides expressive tools that honor the unique therapeutic journey of every individual. By bridging digital innovation with a curated collection of physical miniatures from the Sandstories Shop, we empower practitioners across all settings and modalities to help clients of any age give shape to their stories.
Core Beliefs
The Value of Every Story
Everyone can process and heal when given a safe space to tell their story — their way, at their own pace.
Dignity in Accessibility
Professional-grade tools shouldn’t be a luxury. We keep them within reach for all practitioners.
Theoretical Neutrality
The best tool adapts to your framework instead of imposing its own. The tray is the canvas; you’re the expert.
Ageless Expression
Expressive work matters at every life stage — from a kindergarten classroom to hospice care.
The People Behind Sandstories
Sandstories is run by a husband-and-wife team in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
I'm a K–8 school counselor in Oklahoma with a background that started in the classroom. After fifteen years of teaching and earning an M.S. in Reading and Literacy from Oklahoma State, I realized that my favorite part of working with students was using books as “windows and mirrors” — tools for kids to see themselves and understand the world.
That passion for representation and self-discovery led me naturally into counseling. I’m currently completing my M.Ed. in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health at the University of West Alabama, while working toward my Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential.
I coded the virtual sandtray myself because the platforms I found were not affordable and didn’t have the options or the representation my clients actually needed — so I built one that does. I handle the platform development, the clinical research, and the writing on this site.
When I’m not in the office or coding, I’m likely traveling. I’ve explored six continents — yes, even Antarctica — and I bring that same sense of curiosity and exploration to the therapeutic work I do every day.
Cam is an Oklahoma State fan to the bone — you’ll usually find him cheering on anything orange and black. Go Pokes! He joined Sandstories after a career in sports operations and journalism, where he worked with the OSU women’s soccer team and covered professional hockey as an AHL and ECHL reporter.
Athletics and journalism teach the same lessons in different uniforms: pay attention to the small things, care about the details, and tell the truth about what you’re seeing. As it turns out, that’s exactly what running the Sandstories Shop requires.
At Sandstories, Cam handles the Sandstories Shop. He sources and curates our pre-loved miniatures — cleaning, inspecting, and photographing every piece before packing and shipping each order by hand. He also manages our social media presence; if you see us on Instagram or find a carefully wrapped package at your door, that’s his work.
And the rest of the team.
Sandstories is technically a five-person operation. We don’t make decisions without consulting all departments.
